8 of the best ways to spend a summer evening at Meadowhall

Looking for things to do near Sheffield on a summer evening? Whether it’s enjoying a catch up over dinner and cocktails with friends, indulging in a bit of after-hours retail therapy or enjoying a movie, it’s time to seize the moment and plan an evening out at Meadowhall.

With stores open until 9pm weekdays and 8pm Saturdays, and many restaurants open until 10 or 11pm, we’ve got plenty to tempt you with.

To help with your planning, we’ve created our guide to making the most of your time.

1. A taste of Spain at Tapas Revolution

While a holiday abroad might be out of reach this summer, Tapas Revolution – one of the many restaurants in the Meadowhall Oasis Dining Quarter - is serving up delicious small dishes that are sure to bring a taste of Spain to Sheffield. Tapas are designed to be shared, making it the perfect way to enjoy an evening with friends.

It’s worth checking on which deals are available before you set off, as you’ll often find 2 for 1 cocktails, G&Ts and jugs of Sangria.

2. Relaxed dining at Wagamama

If pan-Asian cuisine is more your thing, head to Wagamama and enjoy their incredible new Asian-inspired summer menu, featuring three new hiyashi bowls.

There’s no need to book in advance, so rock up any time and take a seat on one of their benches. With all kinds of rice and noodle dishes, alongside fresh salads and shareable sides, it’s the perfect place for a relaxed dinner with a friend. There are desserts, fresh juices, hot drinks, wine, sake and expertly crafted Asian beers too, along with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.

3. Happy Hour all day, every day at Las Iguanas

As well as offering a mouth-watering Latin American menu, Las Iguanas Meadowhall has extended its Happy Hour drinks promotion with 2 for 1 cocktails and mocktails available all day, every day – even bank holidays.

Take your pick from classics such as a Caipirinha and Strawberry Daiquiri, or try something with a twist like a Watermelon Margherita or Berry Collins. If you’re the designated driver, Las Iguanas has plenty of mocktails to choose from too, including the Apple Mojo-less and Agua de Hibiscus.

4. Make every night a Friday night

With flowing cocktails and charismatic bartenders, every night feels like a Friday night at TGI Fridays! Choose from a whole host of amazing cocktail creations, from a Pornstar Martini and Tequila Sunrise to a Moscow Mule, Old Fashioned or Paloma. Pair them with a freshly made to order flame-grilled burger or tender 28-day aged seasoned steak and make it a night to remember.

There are also plenty of no and low alcohol cocktails on offer, from a Grapefruit Seltzer to a Ginless Garden, as well as fish and vegetarian food options to cater to all.

5. Make room for a sweet treat at Joe Delucci’s or The Shake Lab

Satisfy your sweet tooth and enjoy an evening treat during an after-dinner stroll or to round off an evening of retail therapy. For a scoop or two of gelato, choose from the long list of delicious flavours at Joe Delucci’s or if you’re in the mood for a shake, The Shake Lab craft ridiculously good shakes – using the very best ingredients blended to perfection. Both are open until 9pm on weekdays.

6. Grab a friend and shop your summer wardrobe

It’s time to enjoy shopping in real life again! With a whole host of shops at Meadowhall – from Zara, Primark, River Island, and M&S to Foot Asylumn, Goldsmiths, Flannels, Reiss and H&M – enjoy some late-night retail therapy and stock up on essentials for the summer.

Why not make a trip out of it and bring a friend along? They can help you pick the perfect outfits, encourage you to try on new styles and, after the shopping is done, you can grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants at Meadowhall.

Our stores are open until 9pm weekdays and 8pm on Saturdays, and are usually a little quieter after 6pm, so visiting us in the evening is a good way to shop at a more leisurely pace.

7. Enjoy a movie

If you’ve missed cinema mate dates, head to Vue to catch the latest movies. After a long day at work, a cinema trip is perfect to just sit back, relax and enjoy the film. With 11 screens of pure entertainment, there are always plenty of options, however it’s best to plan ahead and view the latest Sheffield cinema listings and book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

8. Get the adrenalin going at Rock Up

If you’re looking for a more unusual way to reconnect with friends and family, then a group activity is one to consider.

Rock Up offers an indoor climbing adventure with incredible climbing walls towering over 8 metres. Great for all ages and abilities, the friendly team will cater from novice to expert – and everything in between! It’s the perfect early evening activity, open until 7.30pm, however visitors are recommended to book online in advance to avoid disappointment and for a faster check-in on arrival. Pre-booking will also save £1 per climber.

We’re open until 9pm on weekdays and 8pm on Saturdays, with Vue cinema and some of our restaurants are open later, however we’d always recommend checking with individual retailers before setting off to be sure.
